Terms of service
Last updated: 20 October 2026
These terms apply to the NeatSums app (the web app at /app/ on this website) and to the Plus and Sole Trader plans. NeatSums is run by Billy J Machin trading as NeatSums, a sole trader in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). Contact: Billymachin@hotmail.co.uk.
1. The service
NeatSums is a web app that helps you keep budgets, receipts, invoices, mileage and simple tax estimates. It runs in your browser and stores your information on your own device. The Free plan is free. Plus and Sole Trader are paid subscriptions, billed monthly or yearly.
2. Buying a plan
Paid plans are sold by our reseller and merchant of record, Lemon Squeezy (Lemon Squeezy LLC). When you buy, you agree to Lemon Squeezy's own terms, and Lemon Squeezy takes your payment, charges any VAT and sends your receipt. After you pay you receive a licence key, which you enter in the app. A licence key can be used on up to 3 devices.
3. Trials and promo codes
The 30-day Sole Trader trial is free and needs no card. It does not turn into a paid plan by itself. Promo codes are for one person, have no cash value and may end at any time. We may refuse codes that have been shared publicly or misused.
4. Renewals and cancelling
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel. You can cancel at any time using the link in your Lemon Squeezy receipt email or by contacting us. When a plan ends, the app goes back to the Free plan. You keep full access to view and export everything you've already saved.
5. Your data
Your records stay on your device. You are responsible for keeping backups (the app has a Save backup button). If you clear your browser data or lose your device without a backup, we cannot recover your information. See our privacy notice.
6. Not financial or tax advice
Tax, National Insurance and mileage figures are estimates to help you plan. They are not financial, tax or legal advice. Please check with HMRC or a qualified accountant before filing a return. Rates are based on GOV.UK figures for the 2026 to 2027 tax year and may change.
7. Fair use
Please don't misuse the app, try to get around plan limits, copy or resell it, or use it for anything unlawful.
8. Our responsibility to you
We provide NeatSums with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under UK consumer law, or our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Otherwise, we are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable, for business losses, or for losses caused by lost data where no backup was kept. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
9. Changes
We may update the app and these terms. If a change affects a paid plan you already have, we'll tell you in the app or by email first.
10. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
